“Website Expired”
The site builder stopped serving the site because its subscription, trial or hosting plan ended, and shows this placeholder on your domain instead. The pages and content are usually kept for a while after expiry, so renewing brings the site back as it was; after a longer time some builders delete it.
Is your site showing it right now?
The free scan loads your page like a visitor and checks for this message, plus broken links, script errors and phone layout. It also walks your signup, booking or contact form, without sending anything.
Free, no signup. Usually done in about a minute. Why it happens
- The card on file expired or a payment failed, and the renewal emails went unread
- A trial ended without a plan being chosen
- The subscription was cancelled, by choice or by someone who no longer works with you
- The site was moved to a new builder or host, but the domain still points at the old one
How to fix it
Log in to the builder
Log in to the account the site was built in (check which email address receives its billing emails). The dashboard shows the expired site and a renew or reactivate button.
Renew and update the payment method
Update the card, renew the plan, and turn on auto-renew. The site usually comes back within minutes.
Point the domain if you moved
If you rebuilt elsewhere, change the domain's DNS at the registrar to the new host's records; until then the old builder keeps showing its expired page.
Check the domain itself
The domain can expire separately from the site. In the registrar's account, check its expiry date and renew it too if needed.
Questions
Is my site deleted?
Not right away. Most builders keep the content for weeks or months after expiry and restore it on renewal. The sooner you renew, the safer.
I don't know who holds the account
Search old inboxes for the builder's name; the billing emails name the account. The builder's support can help identify it from the domain if you can prove you own the domain.
Can Page Canary tell me if this comes back?
Yes. Page Canary checks your key pages every day for this message and others like it, confirms it on a second check, and emails you with the fix. One site is free.
