Error message · Wix (Squarespace's version is "It all begins with an idea"; Shopify's is "Talk about your brand")

“I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me.”

That's the placeholder text in Wix's templates. It's still on your live site because a text box was never edited, often one that's hard to see: inside a section far down the page, in a hidden tab or slide, in the mobile layout, on a page that isn't linked from the menu, or in a lightbox or footer. Visitors read it as a site that isn't finished, which costs trust, and search engines index it as your content.

Is your site showing it right now?

The free scan loads your page like a visitor and checks for this message, plus broken links, script errors and phone layout. It also walks your signup, booking or contact form, without sending anything.

Free, no signup. Usually done in about a minute.

Why it happens

  • A text box in a lower section, a slideshow slide, a tab or a strip that wasn't edited
  • A hidden page (not in the menu but still published) that still holds the template's text
  • The mobile editor has its own layout, and a box hidden on desktop still shows on phones
  • A lightbox, popup or footer element from the template
  • A duplicated section or page that kept the template copy

How to fix it

  1. Search the live site, not the editor

Open your site in a private window and use the browser's find (Ctrl or Cmd + F) for "I'm a paragraph" on each page. Check the phone view too. The free scan above reports the exact page and quote.

  2. Check every published page

In the Wix editor, open Pages and go through all of them, including pages not shown in the menu, lightboxes and the footer. Delete the pages you don't use and unpublish any you're still drafting.

  3. Edit or delete the box

Click the placeholder and type your own text, or delete the whole element if the section doesn't need it. For slideshows and tabs, step through every slide and tab.

  4. Check the mobile editor

Switch to the mobile editor (the phone icon). Elements hidden on desktop can still be shown on mobile; hide or edit them there as well.

  5. Publish and check again

Publish, then repeat the find in a private window on desktop and on your phone. Also check your title and description in the SEO settings, which templates fill with placeholders too.

Questions

Does placeholder text hurt search rankings?

It doesn't help: search engines may rank the page for "I'm a paragraph" rather than for your business, and visitors who land and see template text leave quickly. Replace it with text about what you do and where.

I fixed it but still see it.

Either you haven't published since editing, you're looking at a cached copy (try a private window), or the text is in a second place: the mobile layout, another page or a slide you haven't opened.

How do I stop it coming back?

When you add a new section or page from a template, edit every text box before publishing, and run a check on the live site after each publish. A monitor that reads your pages weekly catches the ones you miss.

Can Page Canary tell me if this comes back?

Yes. Page Canary checks your key pages every day for this message and others like it, confirms it on a second check, and emails you with the fix. One site is free.
