Error message · Domains at GoDaddy and other hosts that park a new domain with a coming-soon page

“Website Coming Soon!”

The domain points at the host's placeholder server rather than at a website. Hosts put this page up when a domain is bought, when hosting is bought but nothing is uploaded, or when a site builder plan ends. If you have a live site elsewhere, its DNS is pointing the wrong way; if you built one with the host, it isn't published.

Is your site showing it right now?

The free scan loads your page like a visitor and checks for this message, plus broken links, script errors and phone layout. It also walks your signup, booking or contact form, without sending anything.

Free, no signup. Usually done in about a minute.

Why it happens

  • The site was built but never published, or the builder plan ended
  • A new domain whose DNS was never pointed at the site
  • DNS was reset to the registrar's defaults after a renewal, transfer or nameserver change
  • The hosting plan is new and the site files haven't been uploaded yet

How to fix it

  1. If you built the site with this host, publish it

Open the site builder or hosting dashboard; a site that isn't live shows a Publish button. Publish it and check the domain is attached to it.

  2. If the site lives elsewhere, point the DNS

In the registrar's DNS settings, set the A or CNAME records (or the nameservers) your website host gave you. The coming-soon page goes away once the records change.

  3. Check the hosting plan is active

An ended builder or hosting plan brings the placeholder back. Renew it, or move the site and point DNS at the new host.

  4. Wait and check from outside

DNS changes take up to a day. Use a DNS lookup site or a private window; your browser and network may keep the old answer for a while.

Questions

I'm not building a site yet. Does it matter?

Only if people are being sent to the domain (business cards, ads, listings). A short holding page with your contact details beats the host's generic one.

The page worked yesterday

Then the DNS was reset or a plan ended. Check the nameservers and the hosting account's billing first.

Can Page Canary tell me if this comes back?

Yes. Page Canary checks your key pages every day for this message and others like it, confirms it on a second check, and emails you with the fix. One site is free.
