Error message · WordPress

“Just another WordPress site”

That's WordPress's default tagline, filled in when the site was installed. Themes show the tagline under the site name, in the browser tab and in search results, so leaving it tells visitors (and Google) the site isn't finished.

Is your site showing it right now?

The free scan loads your page like a visitor and checks for this message, plus broken links, script errors and phone layout. It also walks your signup, booking or contact form, without sending anything.

Free, no signup. Usually done in about a minute.

Why it happens

  • The tagline was never changed after installation
  • A migration or reinstall reset the site's general settings
  • The theme shows the tagline somewhere you hadn't noticed (the header, the footer, the home page title)

How to fix it

  1. Change the tagline

In the WordPress admin go to Settings, General, and put what the business does in Tagline ("Family bakery in Leeds since 1982"), or leave it empty if the theme shows it somewhere you don't want it.

  2. Check the browser tab

The home page title is often "Site name – Tagline". An SEO plugin (Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO) can set its own home page title; check there too if the tab still shows the old text.

  3. Ask Google to re-read the page

Search results update on their own within days. To hurry it, open Google Search Console, enter the home page URL and choose Request Indexing.

Questions

Does the tagline matter for search?

A little: it's part of the home page title most themes build. A line that says what and where you are helps people pick you from the results.

Same for "Hello world!" and "Sample Page"?

Yes, those are the sample post and page every WordPress install creates. Delete them under Posts and Pages (then empty the trash).

Can Page Canary tell me if this comes back?

Yes. Page Canary checks your key pages every day for this message and others like it, confirms it on a second check, and emails you with the fix. One site is free.
