Error message · Shared hosting (cPanel hosts)

“This Account has been suspended.”

Your hosting company has switched your hosting account off, so instead of your site every visitor sees their suspension page. Your files and database are usually still there; the host has only stopped serving them.

Is your site showing it right now?

The free scan loads your page like a visitor and checks for this message, plus broken links, script errors and phone layout. It also walks your signup, booking or contact form, without sending anything.

Free, no signup. Usually done in about a minute.

Why it happens

  • An unpaid or failed hosting invoice (an expired card is the usual reason)
  • The site used more CPU, memory or traffic than your plan allows
  • Malware, spam being sent from the account, or an abuse complaint
  • Something on the site breaks the host's terms of service

How to fix it

  1. Check the email from your host

Hosts send the reason before or when they suspend. Search your inbox (and spam) for your host's name and "suspended".

  2. Pay the open invoice

Log in to the host's billing area, update the card and pay any open invoice. Most hosts unsuspend automatically within minutes of payment.

  3. Ask support why, if it isn't billing

Open a ticket or chat and ask for the exact reason and what they need from you. For resource limits, they can tell you which script or page used too much.

  4. Clean up malware before asking for a review

If the reason is malware or spam, update WordPress, its plugins and themes, remove ones you don't use, change every password (hosting, database, admin users), then ask the host to review and unsuspend.

  5. For resource limits, cut the load or upgrade

A caching plugin, blocking bad bots, and removing heavy plugins often bring usage back under the limit. If the site has simply grown, move to a bigger plan.

Questions

Is my site deleted?

Usually not. Suspended accounts keep their files for a while, but hosts do delete them after a long unpaid period, so act soon and keep your own backup.

Does it hurt my Google ranking?

A day or two rarely does. If the suspension lasts longer, Google starts dropping pages, so get it back online as soon as you can.

Can Page Canary tell me if this comes back?

Yes. Page Canary checks your key pages every day for this message and others like it, confirms it on a second check, and emails you with the fix. One site is free.
